The Maruti Celerio is a step-up from both the A-Star and the Estilo hatchback. Having lost ground in this segment to other rivals, the Celerio is Maruti's weapon to regain the lost glory. Ofcourse it will also eat into the sales of the Wagon R but on the whole, it will help Maruti gain traction in the Rs 4-5 lac hatchback category.
At 3600mm in length, 1600mm in width and 1560mm in height, the Celerio is 100mm longer and 70mm taller than the A-Star. Its wheelbase is also 65mm longer than both the A-Star and the Estilo - this has in turn allowed Maruti to liberate more room on the inside which is now comparable to cars like the Honda Brio.
The Celerio also benefits from a bigger boot (235 litres as compared to 212 for Estilo and a mere 129 for the A-Star). On the engine front, the Celerio comes with the same 1.0-litre K10 engine that does duty in a number of Maruti cars and as well as with a 800cc, two cylinder diesel engine.
The petrol engine in the light weight Celerio has brisk performance for both city and highway use. True to most Maruti offerings, the Celerio excels on the fuel economy front as well with a rated economy of 23.1kmpl from the petrol engine and X from the diesel engine.
Steering mounted controls, airbags and ABS are all provided as option.
The Celerio is a good all round product and its powertrain options make it even more tempting for those looking for a practical, affordable and economical hatchback.
